The five works in the "Memento Series" reflect my interest in display and the collection of objects from multi-cultural sources. In this series I gather together a collection of objects that reference the shifts of perception that might occur as objects and people move between diverse cultural contexts. These are objects that I feel can communicate historic, cultural and emotional concerns. Like Dutch still life painters of the 17th century I believe that objects signify more than their simple reality. For me the things we make and gather around us record our lives in meaningful ways. In the "Memento Series" I strive through process and image to reach between the historic and cultural to initiate a reinterpretation of context and value.
